Job Description

Job Title: Geotechnical Engineering Intern - Summer 2025. Location: San Francisco, CA, US, 94105, San Jose, CA, US, 95113. Langan is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Intern to join its collaborative team in San Francisco or San Jose, CA. This individual will serve a key function in providing assistance with technical aspects of diverse geotechnical projects, both small & large scale. In this role, you will have the opportunity to partner directly with geotechnical leadership & gain exposure to site feasibility studies, which may involve field work, technical report preparation & calculations, pre-construction conditions documentation, design plans & specifications.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with the planning & execution of field investigations, including logging borings & test pits, collecting samples, performing field tests, and collecting & recording data.
• Observe foundation & earthwork construction activities; monitor conformance with the construction documents (plans & specifications).
• Identify & implement solutions to field &/or laboratory problems.
• Prepare standard logs & field forms, including drilling & test pit logs, field investigation dailies, & chain of custody logs.
• Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, & document searches.
• Perform calculations & learn to perform engineering analyses; learn geotechnical engineering software.
• Prepare report exhibits, figures, & plans using AutoCAD.
• Prepare reports, documenting field investigations & analytical results.
• Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

• A student actively pursuing a 4-year or advanced degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering; Geotechnical coursework preferred.
• A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater is preferred.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD & Microsoft Office Suite applications.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, & judgment capabilities.
• Ability to effectively work independently & in a team environment.
• Possess reliable transportation to access job site visits & a valid driver’s license in good standing.
