Job Title: Intern, Renewable Engineering. Location: Chicago, IL. Invenergy drives innovation in energy, providing scalable power generation & storage solutions worldwide to create a cleaner energy future. We develop, build, own, & operate sustainable energy projects.
About the Program – Summer 2025 Internship

- Expand your knowledge & skills while gaining hands-on experience.
- Engage with leaders through weekly lunch-and-learns about the clean energy industry.
- Visit our nearby power plants: Grand Ridge Energy Center & Nelson Energy Center.
- Participate in community service through our ‘Volunteer Time Off’ program.
- Have lunch with our CEO and Founder, Michael Polsky.
- Attend networking mixers with representatives from various affinity groups.
- Explore Chicago with fellow interns.
The program lasts for 10-12 weeks from June to August.
About the Internship
Interns will be considered for roles across various engineering departments, responsible for overseeing technical design, evaluation, & construction of commercial & utility-scale projects. Interns may join teams such as:
Wind Renewable Engineering
- Support technical due diligence for prospective wind projects.
- Evaluate project constraints & design optimal layouts using GIS software.
- Conduct site measurement campaigns & analyze meteorological data.
- Model energy production & key metrics.
- Participate in landowner meetings, community outreach, & construction meetings.
Solar Renewable Engineering
- Work with Project Management & Operations teams for project operations.
- Conduct site visits for evaluation & due diligence.
- Prepare conceptual project layouts using CAD & GIS software.
- Optimize layouts & prepare energy production estimates using performance modeling software.
BESS (Battery Energy Storage)
- Interface with OEMs to obtain technical information & stay updated on technology trends.
- Prepare project layouts using QGIS, CAD, or Visio software.
- Conduct site visits & assist in permitting efforts.
- Support team initiatives related to safety & process improvement.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program with an expected graduation between December 2025 and Summer 2026.
- Majoring in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
- Eligible to work in the U.S. without employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Demonstrated interest in the renewable energy or clean energy sector.
