Job Description
Operates and maintains water/wastewater treatment, processing, disposal, and testing equipment at a water/wastewater treatment facility to ensure water purity meets regulatory and operational requirements. Fully qualified to perform complex tasks and may lead others. Acts as Primary Operator responsible for state reporting and compliance.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Operates and monitors automatic and semi-automatic machines and related equipment, including pumps, engines, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, chemical feed systems, odor control, and vacuum filters.
Adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow, monitors flow meters, gauges, pressures, and controls through panels, computer terminals, and programmable logic control units.
Records operational data and observations in shift logs, troubleshoots and diagnoses operational issues, and performs corrective actions per procedure.
Conducts field tests (chemical, physical, biological) to adjust chemical dosages for process and odor control units.
Samples wastewater, sludge, and gases according to schedule, prepares chemical solutions, and services automatic samplers.
Monitors chemical supplies, performs lab tests for permit compliance, and calibrates portable meters.
Performs manual labor including equipment cleaning and maintenance, and operates vehicles for plant operations.
Practices good housekeeping, disposes of waste according to safety and environmental policies.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience/Background:
High School diploma or equivalent with proficiency in English (operational, process, safety, quality instructions).
Associate’s degree in a science or technical area preferred.
Over five (5) years of experience in a related position and environment with knowledge of water/wastewater treatment methods.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Basic math skills required, ability to use all required PPE including respirators, gas detectors, etc.
Proficiency in operating all facility equipment, troubleshooting, and taking corrective actions.
Ability to use computer programs for process control, work in a team environment, and assume additional responsibilities as needed.
Willingness to serve rotational 24-hour emergency on-call duty if required.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
Minimum Grade 3 Wastewater Treatment Certification with the State of California (Grades I-V considered).
Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
Physical Requirements:
Standing 25%, Walking 75% for up to five miles per shift.
Use of hands, reaching, talking, hearing; occasional stooping, kneeling, and entering confined spaces; use of ladders or stairs.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (occasionally 60 pounds); close and distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Job Location is Richmond, CA, USA. Pay Rate: $30.00 to $50.00 Per Hour.
