Health and safety Manager

Job Description

Job Title: Health and Safety Manager. Location: Burnaby, BC (with flexibility to work anywhere in Canada with site visits). Job Type: Full-Time, On-Site/Hybrid. AECOM is seeking a Health and Safety Manager for a large, multi-disciplinary hydropower construction project in Canada. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, this role involves daily interactions with the project team, Client/Owner, and contractor’s on-site teams. The successful candidate will develop, implement, and oversee health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and fostering a safety-first culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive health and safety management system tailored to the hydropower project.
  • Conduct risk assessments and regular site inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Lead health and safety training programs for project staff and subcontractors.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; prepare detailed reports with recommendations.
  • Collaborate with project management and engineering teams to integrate safety considerations into project planning.
  • Monitor and report on health and safety performance metrics, driving continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders regarding health and safety matters.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in health and safety management; 10 years preferred, especially in large-scale construction projects.
  • Familiarity with health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Experience in hydropower projects is a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive health and safety systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse teams.

Benefits:

  • Offered compensation will be based on location and qualifications, ranging from $120,000 to $170,000.
