Associate Director Ecology

Job Description

Position: Associate Ecologist. Location: Galway, Belfast, Cork, Dublin (Flexible office location across Ireland; hybrid working available). Join AECOM's dynamic Nature team to shape the future of the environment. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale ecological projects, including green energy generation, grid infrastructure upgrades, and active travel projects. You’ll be integral in implementing Biodiversity Net Gain and supporting local planning authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Ecological Inputs: Plan and deliver ecological assessments for internal and external clients, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal, Protected Species Baseline Reports, Ecological Impact Assessments, Appropriate Assessment, and Biodiversity Net Gain Calculations.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and ensure the delivery of effective solutions. Review and produce high-quality technical documentation.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Lead consultations and manage relationships with clients, planning authorities, and statutory bodies.
  • Project Management: Oversee project bids and tenders for ecological services, manage project budgets, and lead stakeholder discussions.
  • Team Development: Mentor and support junior staff and peers. Contribute to the development of the team’s technical capabilities and innovation.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Degree (or equivalent) in ecology or a related subject.
  • Professional Membership: Membership of an appropriate professional institution. Working towards or obtained Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist status.
  • Licensing: Holder of protected species survey and/or mitigation licenses.
  • Experience: Extensive experience in managing ecological surveys, impact assessments, project budgets, and stakeholder engagement. Proven track record of project delivery and client relationship management.
  • Skills: Excellent knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation and policy. Strong reporting skills and experience in leading and reviewing technical work.
