Job Description
The Sr. Commissioning Manager leads a team responsible for executing commissioning activities for utility-scale Battery Storage projects. They organize and manage the team, acting as the key technical liaison with clients and EPC partners during project commissioning. Working closely with project and product engineering teams, as well as suppliers, the Sr. Commissioning Manager plans activities and resolves day-to-day issues.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute commissioning plans, including resourcing, logistics, and scheduling.
Manage 2 or 3 Commissioning Managers.
Create plans and procedures for quality inspection and commissioning tasks.
Support on-site Commissioning Managers during various commissioning and acceptance testing activities.
Assign team members to projects and activities, coordinating overall commissioning efforts.
Establish and standardize commissioning processes and tools.
Ensure proper documentation for commissioning and testing records.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define and execute testing protocols for achieving commercial operation.
Prepare professional commissioning and testing reports for internal stakeholders and external customers.
Drive continuous improvement in technical problem-solving knowledge.
Manage administrative responsibilities including service reports, issue tracking, job safety analysis, and quality compliance.
Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors.
Conduct weekly team meetings for information sharing and staff updates.
Provide leadership, resolve conflicts, and mediate disputes.
Participate in client update meetings regarding engineering status and issues.
Travel up to 50% and stay on-site for extended periods during commissioning activities.
Qualifications and Experience
Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.
Minimum 10 years’ technical experience in industries such as Substation/Solar EPC, Engineering firms, or Energy Storage integration.
Minimum 5 years’ team management experience.
Minimum 5 years of commissioning experience.
Previous experience with battery systems preferred.
Deep knowledge in power system installation, construction, design phase engineering, local jurisdiction requirements, project scheduling, system layout design, SLD, etc.
Proficiency in scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project or Smartsheet.
Strong technical writing skills for drafting working instructions.
Exceptional ability to simplify and report complex scenarios to management.
Outstanding judgment and decision-making skills.
Effective interpersonal, communication (oral, written, visual), organizational, and time management skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships internally and externally.
Demonstrated sound judgment and decisiveness in crisis situations.
Independent thinking, initiative, and creativity.
Flexible work hours and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
