Engineer- Technical Sales

Job Description

Basic Job Functions:

Manage the technical aspects of the sales cycle for photovoltaic modules and act as the voice of the customer to Product Management and R&D teams.

Lead customer opportunities from early-stage origination through indicative analysis and final bidding.

Support the contract execution team lead after a deal is won.

Work closely with Sales and Product Management teams to bring value to each type of customer and industry partner.

Complete plant performance energy estimates, create technology comparisons, build relationships with EPCs and OEMs, model site layouts, optimize for highest value results, and understand capital cost estimates and O&M scope for module sales or RFP bid responses.

Address and remove technical roadblocks prohibiting customers from executing module transactions.

Review customer technical documents, explain CdTe technology benefits, guide Balance of System costs, and provide plant performance estimates and tool knowledge.

Ensure optimal design, testing, and valuation of First Solar module technology by customers and partners.

Coordinate with customers and internal teams to address deeper technical and business questions.

Education/Experience:

BS degree in an engineering discipline (e.g., BSEE, BSME, BSCE, BSChE, etc.) required.

Advanced degree in Business or Engineering preferred.

2-5 years of power industry experience with knowledge of solar project design, equipment selection, energy modeling, and technical sales.

Prior experience in the energy industry required.

Experience in project development, design, engineering, optimization, cost estimating, and procurement.

Experience with battery storage, inverters, PV structure, construction, field-testing, allocation, marketing, fulfillment, execution, commissioning, and data analysis is a plus.

Required Skills/Competencies:

Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to effectively communicate technical parameters and evaluation processes.

Technical knowledge of related engineering systems, equipment, calculations, and construction methods/materials.

Aptitude for product development, sales, project engineering, and procurement.

Strong computing skills including MS Office Suite; engineering programs like PVsyst, CAD, Python; CRM tools like Salesforce, Kinaxis, and Tableau.

Organizational skills to manage customer relationships and transactions simultaneously.

Essential Responsibilities:

Engage in the consultative selling process and communicate First Solar’s technical value proposition.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry partners.

Review and provide feedback on plant energy estimates, site layouts, and capital cost estimates.

Generate and manage internal cost estimates, technology comparisons, technical sales decks, and marketing collateral.

Review technical portions of proposals and align with commercial offers.

Represent First Solar at PV industry conferences and advocate for module technology.

Stay informed of technical and economic trends within the PV industry.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal clients and communicate technical risks.

Office Physical Requirements: Interaction with people and technology while either standing or sitting. Ability to communicate face-to-face and on the phone with or without reasonable accommodation.
