Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Job Description

This role provides leadership and management to the HSE Organization for Onshore Projects and Factories at Siemens Gamesa. Responsibilities include overseeing HSE functions during Wind Farms construction/commissioning and Factory assembly/manufacturing. This position manages HSE personnel both on-site and in the back office, offering functional guidance to HSE staff in factories.

Key Responsibilities

Manage a team of approximately 8-10 direct reports and contractors, with functional guidance to 3-6 HSE personnel in factories and tooling centers.

Develop and align HSE Strategy for Onshore North America with global strategies.

Establish HSE Targets and Objectives for Onshore North America, tracking and reporting to management.

Prepare and distribute HSE Monthly PSM Reports to the Projects organization.

Establish, monitor, and report HSE KPIs.

Plan, initiate, and coordinate continuous improvement of new/revised HSE programs and initiatives.

Support Technical Engineering (TE) in HSE decisions for retrofits, potential retrofits, yearly releases, and new turbines.

Analyze injuries and near misses for trends, implementing corrective actions.

Ensure projects are staffed with qualified HSE professionals to meet customer and legal compliance.

Address day-to-day issues to mitigate risks during transportation, installation, and commissioning of wind turbines.

Inform management about HSE deficiencies and recommend actions to minimize risks until corrections are made.

Assist the Region CEO in executing HSE strategy.

Maintain OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 certifications for the region, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and legal regulations.

Implement environmental control measures and adapt for the American segment, including waste management, prohibited substances, and environmental impacts.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

Minimum 10 years of successful experience in Health, Safety, and Environmental fields.

Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of effectively presenting to executive management.

Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Advocate for Zero Harm Safety Culture, influencing decision-making to prioritize safety.

Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations.

Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer-sponsored work authorization.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation.

Job location is US-Fort Madison, IA.
