Field Service Installation Technician

Job Description

Job Title: Field Service Installation Technician. Fully Remote • Anywhere USA, IL • Field Service. This is a fully remote position; however, up to 90% travel is required to perform installations and/or relocations of Ipsen equipment. The ideal candidate will live near a major airport to ensure efficient travel scheduling. Travel may include extended periods.

As directed by the Installation Manager, the Furnace Installation Engineer leads hands-on technical work and site installations of Ipsen furnaces. This includes understanding installation requirements, managing onsite teams, coordinating resources, resolving customer needs, and ensuring timely and efficient project execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform installations of Ipsen vacuum furnaces, including bending conduit, wiring, and pipework installation (e.g., black pipe, copper, PVC).
  • Collaborate with contractors and field service personnel for rigging, millwright, and electrical tasks.
  • Conduct quality checks, troubleshoot issues, and make necessary repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and enforce site safety requirements.
  • Review project requirements and contractual scope with the Installation Manager before installation.
  • Manage installation budgets, optimize costs, and minimize overtime.
  • Evaluate contractor change requests with the Installation Manager’s support.
  • Maintain and control the installation schedule for site performance optimization.
  • Provide professional leadership onsite, delegating tasks effectively and resolving conflicts calmly.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings as required.
  • Gather and share competitive intelligence with the Ipsen team.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (Bachelor’s in Business, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering preferred).
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a service/contractor organization, managing capital equipment installations.
  • Supervisory or management experience is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of rigging, millwright, pipefitting, welding, and electrical trades.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols (OSHA 30 preferred).
  • Effective communication and project management skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 90%.

Physical/Mental/Work Environment Demands: Close, distance, and color vision; peripheral vision; and depth perception required. Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Exposure to loud, hot, or dirty environments at offsite locations.
