Job Title: Corporate Counsel. Location: Guelph, ON, Canada (Hybrid/Remote). Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the legal department to fulfill Geosyntec’s legal needs in a professional service environment.
- Review, negotiate, and draft project-related agreements in line with company policies and risk parameters.
- Manage claims, including professional liability, auto, or general liability, to bring resolutions effectively.
- Work with internal resources and external insurance brokers on commercial insurance compliance and coverage.
- Research legal developments to ensure the company’s operations remain compliant.
- Advise management on potential risks and liabilities.
- Serve as a resource for legal matters, including cybersecurity, professional licensing, employee relations, intellectual property, bankruptcy, securities, and collections.
- Negotiate contracts and subcontracts with clients, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring positive outcomes.
- Offer responsive support to internal and external clients on emerging legal issues.
- Guide Project or Client Managers on contract and risk management.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and licensed to practice law in Canada.
- Experience: 5+ years in contract law, adept at communicating legal issues to non-lawyers.
- Technical Skills: Intermediate Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, with working knowledge of Excel and Access.
- Additional Skills: Strong analytical, interpersonal, and logical thinking abilities; effective presenter; ability to interpret contracts, insurance, financial, and legal documents.
- Licensing: Valid Canadian driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
