Geotechnical Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist. Location: Manchester, UK. Join our growing Manchester office and apply your engineering skills to projects involving geohazards, mining legacy, brownfield redevelopment, landfill, and water/waste containment systems. This role will help you develop both technical and business skills for a successful consulting career.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct geo-environmental desk studies for infrastructure and mining legacy projects.
  • Perform site reconnaissance, geomorphological mapping, and asset assessments.
  • Supervise ground investigations, including logging and sampling.
  • Manage small to medium-sized projects and tasks.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate and junior staff.
  • Prepare ground models, analytical sections, and engineering parameters.
  • Write factual and interpretative reports.
  • Analyze geotechnical data and produce mapping.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience in ground investigation, geotechnical parameter development, slope stability analysis, and foundation design.
  • Proven ability in engineering geology/geotechnical design and report preparation.
  • Fieldwork experience related to design and construction.
  • Coordination with regional and international colleagues.
  • Preparation of project budgets, proposals, and resource plans.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree and professional registration (e.g., C.Eng / C.Geol) preferred.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with Holebase, SlopeW, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Equis is useful.
  • Regular fieldwork and overnight travel required.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Valid UK driving license and a satisfactory driving record.
