GIS Developer

Job Description

Job Title: GIS Developer. Location: Suitland, Maryland

Responsibilities:

• Implement, manage, and maintain GIS infrastructure using ESRI Enterprise GIS/Portal.
• Develop custom GIS tools and automate workflows for data management, analysis, and visualization.
• Migrate legacy data into ESRI Enterprise GIS/Portal and ensure seamless integration with SQL databases.
• Create and maintain web-based GIS applications in an offline environment;
• Perform data ingestion, conversion, and optimization for multiple SQL databases.
• Collaborate with IT, software, and security teams to enhance GIS capabilities.
• Conduct workflow analysis and develop Python/SQL scripts for automation;
• Troubleshoot system issues, optimize performance, and ensure database security.
• Support database design, indexing, and integration enhancements.
• Engage with diverse teams, including developers, analysts, and engineers.
• Travel occasionally as required.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field, with 2+ years of experience, or 5+ years of experience in lieu of a degree.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, JavaScript, and GIS-related software;
• Ability to work independently, solve problems, and collaborate with IT/security teams.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a TS security clearance and pass a polygraph;
• Familiarity with database management, geospatial data formats, and conversion techniques.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to obtain Security+ certification.

Preferred:

• Experience with ESRI ArcMap, ArcPro, and Portal.
• Knowledge of geospatial databases, data management, and metadata standards.
• Experience working on closed networks and geospatial display software.
• Understanding of ocean engineering, hydrography, and surveying;
• Scripting experience in SQL, Python, JavaScript, or Visual Basic.
