Global Tax Director

Job Description

Position: Global Tax Director  

Location: Aberdeen, Scotland, Hybrid (Virtual & In-Office); Travel ~25%

The Global Tax Director will manage international tax strategy, compliance, and reporting for global operations, reporting to the VP of Tax. The role involves overseeing U.S. international tax accounting, compliance, planning, and managing a team of 6 direct reports across various jurisdictions. Responsibilities are split between international tax accounting (40%), tax research/planning (40%), and tax controversy (20%).

Responsibilities:

Global Tax Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to optimize tax positions and ensure compliance with laws.

Strategic Tax Advice: Provide guidance on international business initiatives, M&A, and restructuring.

Tax Compliance: Oversee international tax compliance, including returns, transfer pricing, and other requirements.

Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a global team of tax professionals.

Regulatory Updates: Stay informed on changes in international tax laws and their impact.

External Coordination: Work with advisors and tax authorities on audits and disputes.

Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with finance, legal, and other departments to support global initiatives.

Tax Risk Management: Monitor and manage risks associated with international operations.

Tax Provision Review: Oversee U.S. and non-U.S. tax provision calculations and ensure proper recording of impacts.

Transfer Pricing: Maintain optimal policies and ensure proper accounting of intercompany transactions.

Process Oversight: Direct transfer pricing planning and manage overall tax processes.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field.

Certification: CPA or equivalent.

Experience: Significant experience in international tax within a multinational company or public accounting firm.

Technical Knowledge: Expertise in international tax principles, transfer pricing, tax treaties, and cross-border transactions.

Familiarity: OECD initiatives, U.S. SEC reporting, SOX compliance, and ONESOURCE Tax Provision.

Team Management: Experience managing tax professionals across regions.

Desired Qualifications:

Advanced Degrees: Master’s degree or JD/LLM with emphasis in taxation.

Experience: Public accounting background, corporate tax, or energy sector experience.

Additional Knowledge: Indirect tax (VAT/GST), PeopleSoft, and global organization experience.
