Job Description

Position: Lead Engineer - Grid

Department: Power Solutions > VPS Region APAC > Power Plant Solutions APAC  

Locations: Melbourne, Brisbane

As a Lead Engineer at Vestas Australia, you'll manage all grid aspects during the sales, construction, and service phases of wind energy projects in APAC. You'll collaborate with engineering professionals and cross-functional teams to deliver compliant and competitive grid solutions.

Responsibilities:

Power System Studies: Define wind farm generator performance standards and develop control system specifications.

Design Review: Assess Balance of Plant (BoP) design and document submissions for grid connection compliance.

Deliverables: Ensure timely, high-quality submission of grid connection deliverables.

Stakeholder Management: Resolve grid connection issues by liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

Testing & Compliance: Support the design, installation, commissioning, and testing of grid monitoring equipment. Perform compliance testing and generator registration.

Consultancy Management: Engage and manage power systems engineering consultancies as needed.

Technical Responses: Prepare and deliver formal responses and technical presentations to inquiries regarding wind farm performance.

Meetings & Reviews: Participate in safety, design, technical, and risk meetings.

Tender Specifications: Review tender specifications and assess variations and payment claims.

Qualifications:

Certification: Registered or Certified Professional Engineer (RPEng or CPEng).

Degree: Engineering degree in Electrical or Power Systems.

Competencies:

Consultant Management: Experience managing consultants and designers in a construction environment.

Grid Connection Design: Familiarity with grid connection compliance design and wind farm registration.

Modeling & Simulation: Experience with generator and power systems modeling, using tools like PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory.

Design Experience: Knowledge of substation electrical design.

Stakeholder Negotiation: Experience negotiating with clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities.

High-Pressure Environment: Ability to work effectively under pressure.
