Manager, Energy Developer

Job Description

Job Title: Manager, Energy Developer & First Nations Community Stakeholder. Location: Toronto, ON. As the Manager, First Nation, Community, and Stakeholder Relations, you will lead and manage relationships with all stakeholders during the development, construction, and operation of utility-scale wind and solar projects in Central & Western Canada. This role is based in our Toronto office, with regular travel required.

Responsibilities:  

  • Develop & implement engagement strategies aligned with Invenergy’s long-term goals.  
  • Build & maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, municipalities, & stakeholders.  
  • Represent Invenergy in meetings with customers, landowners, officials, & regulators.  
  • Lead community engagement activities throughout all project phases.  
  • Oversee the acquisition of local, provincial, and federal permits & authorizations.  
  • Manage consultation processes with Indigenous communities, including negotiations for capacity & partnerships.  
  • Secure site control by negotiating leases & agreements with landowners.  
  • Coordinate landowner communication efforts.  
  • Manage tasks according to budgets & schedules, coordinating internal & external support.

Required Skills:  

  • Bachelor’s degree.  
  • 8+ years of experience in Indigenous, community, and stakeholder engagement for large infrastructure or energy projects.  
  • Ability to travel to communities in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia (~25% of time).  
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with renewable projects is an asset.  
  • Familiarity with provincial & municipal engagement requirements for large energy projects.  
  • Proven track record of building trusted relationships with Indigenous communities.  
  • Experience in complex negotiations.  
  • Strategic thinking & implementation of engagement plans.  
  • Strong organizational, networking, leadership, & time management skills.  
  • Exceptional collaboration, facilitation, verbal, written, & presentation skills.
