Manager, Regulatory Affairs

Job Title: Manager, Regulatory Affairs. Location: Toronto, ON, or Montreal, QC, Canada.

Position Overview

Invenergy seeks a Manager, Regulatory Affairs to manage relationships with regulatory agencies; system operators, & trade associations in Canada. You will oversee the development; advocacy, & implementation of regulations affecting energy projects while securing necessary regulatory approvals for Invenergy initiatives. Reporting to the VP of Regulatory Affairs for New York & New England, this role is critical in shaping the company’s competitive edge in the energy sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent Invenergy in provincial & federal regulatory discussions & advocacy efforts to enhance market position.
  • Build & maintain relationships with regulators, utilities (e.g., IESO, AESO, BC Hydro), & industry stakeholders.
  • Lead coalitions on regulatory issues like interconnection, land use, & market expansion;
  • Monitor & analyze regulatory changes, providing bi-weekly & quarterly updates to internal teams.
  • Prepare regulatory filings, position papers, & participate in government consultations;
  • Track Canadian utility procurement plans & market rules, offering actionable insights.
  • Oversee trade organization budgets & manage external consultants/counsel.
  • Attend industry meetings, hearings, & stakeholder events to advance Invenergy’s agenda.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Environmental Science, Economics, Law, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in energy, regulatory, or related industries.
  • Ability to travel & work legally in Canada without visa sponsorship;

Preferred:

  • MBA or law degree.
  • Proficiency in power markets, IESO/AESO operations, & transmission regulations.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills; fluency in French is highly preferred;
  • Knowledge of electricity market operations (e.g., day-ahead, ancillary services).
