Optimisation Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Optimisation Engineer – Australia. Location: Canberra, Australia. Join Neoen’s Energy Management Team in Australia as an Optimisation Engineer and help maximize the value of over 2.5 GW of renewable energy assets, with a goal of reaching 5 GW by 2025. This role focuses on developing and implementing advanced optimisation algorithms for large-scale wind, solar, and battery storage assets, ensuring efficient energy market operations.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze market performance of operating assets & identify optimization strategies.
• Develop & refine optimisation algorithms for energy market bidding;
• Implement strategies in Neoen’s automated bidding system following best software development practices (TDD, Continuous Integration).
• Coordinate with the 24/7 Operating Control Center to deploy strategies on active assets.
• Develop data analysis tools to track performance & market trends;
• Support long-term revenue modeling & assist development teams in launching new wind, solar, and battery projects.

Qualifications:

• Education: Postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related fields.
• Experience: 5+ years in optimisation, software development, or energy markets;
• Technical Skills:
  • Programming: Python (Pandas, Matplotlib, Plotly)
  • Data Analysis: SQL, data visualization tools
  • Optimisation Models: GAMS, PuLP, Gurobi, Julia, or equivalent
• Soft Skills: Strong analytical mindset, problem-solving ability, and communication skills;
• Energy Market Knowledge: Understanding of the NEM (National Electricity Market) is a plus, or a strong interest to learn.
• Other: Self-driven, innovative, and able to work autonomously.
