Process Safety & Risk Engineer

Job Description

Process Safety & Risk Engineer (H/F). Location: Paris.

Role:

  • Project Support: Lead and support new projects on Process Safety from conceptual design to operational readiness, including Hydrogen projects.
  • Safety Champion: Promote process safety and manage technological risk during engineering and execution phases.
  • Ad Hoc Support: Provide Process Safety Management support for existing operational assets and entities.

Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Interpretation: Understand and apply regulatory requirements for different countries, ensuring timely development of necessary HSE studies for permitting.
  • Exemption Validation: Validate requests for exemptions from standard procedures.
  • Implementation: Ensure Process Safety Management principles are applied early in the design phase.
  • Risk-Based Approach: Adopt a risk-based approach exceeding basic regulatory requirements.
  • Deliverables Definition: Define required process safety deliverables and regulatory requirements.
  • Scope Preparation: Prepare/review Scope of Work for engineering contractors and evaluate HSE prequalification questionnaires.
  • Liaison: Work with clients/partners on permitting support and HSE interfaces.
  • Oversight: Supervise EPC contractors and Owner Engineers on Process Safety Management.
  • Review: Assess HSE/safety deliverables from contractors and track project progress.
  • Workshops: Actively participate in HSE workshops and ensure implementation of recommendations.
  • Safety Studies: Interpret and recommend based on safety studies (QRA, Fire and Explosion studies).
  • Manual Support: Assist in writing the Operational and Safety Manual.
  • Hazard Identification: Identify hazards using techniques like HAZID, FMEA, HAZOP.
  • Consequence Modelling: Conduct consequence modelling for project assessment.
  • Safeguards Assessment: Implement and assess safeguards for identified hazards.
  • HSE Studies: Direct or participate in HSE studies and risk assessments for commissioning, startup, and operations.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into Process Safety incidents and track implementation of recommendations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical thinking, writing, and reporting.
  • Operational Safety: Good to excellent understanding of operational safety.
  • Process Safety Principles: Expertise in Process Safety engineering principles for onshore gas plants.
  • Modelling Techniques: Experienced in consequence modelling techniques.
  • Regulations: Effective application of safety regulations and procedures in the gas industry.
  • Emergency Actions: Understanding of defining emergency actions for identified hazards.
  • Qualification: Chartered Chemical/Process Safety engineering degree.
  • Minimum 3 years in a similar role.
  • Minimum 5 years in using and interpreting process hazard analysis software such as PHAST.
  • Minimum 7 years in energy, petrochemical, or gas projects.
  • French Regulatory Experience: Experience with French regulatory requirements (étude de danger) is an advantage.
  • Hydrogen Experience: Proven experience in hydrogen is considered advantageous.
