Shift Engineer - Trainee

Job Description

Position: Trainee Shift Engineer  

Company: First Hydro Company  

Location: Dinorwig Power Station (with occasional travel)  

Role Overview:  

Provide technical guidance to a multi-disciplined shift team.  

Ensure successful plant operations, maintenance, and project delivery.  

Qualifications: 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.  

Professional Status: Working towards professional status.  

Safety Training: Ideally completed formal safety training (e.g., IOSH Managing Safety).  

Experience & Skills:

Industry Experience: Experience in maintaining and operating heavy industrial plant, preferably in power generation.  

Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with Safe Systems of Work, experience as a Designated Person, Safety Controller, Senior Authorised Person, or equivalent.  

Diagnostic Skills: Experience identifying faults using diagnostic techniques and directing safe repairs.  

Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of statutory legislative requirements.  

IT Skills: Proficient in operating computerised work management systems.  

Planning: Experience in work scheduling, engineering schemes preparation, and detailed plant/task risk assessments.  

Personal Attributes: Confident, innovative, and pragmatic approach to operations, maintenance, and engineering.  

Benefits: Salary: £57k to £67k (dependent on skills and experience).  Shift Allowance: £15k.  Healthcare: Private healthcare insurance.  Bonus: Annual bonus payment.  Pension: Company pension scheme with up to 12% employer contribution.  Holiday: 25 days annual leave plus public holidays.  Development: Support for continued development if requirements are not fully met.  Security Clearance: Required national security vetting.
