Job Description

Position: ROV Pilot Technician  

Location: Perth, Offshore

To operate ROV systems both offshore and at onshore sites, working in harsh environments and traveling to various regional work sites (e.g., West Africa, Middle East, Caspian Sea).

Responsibilities:

  • Pilot ROV systems as directed by the ROV Supervisor for survey, inspection, or work tasks.
  • Perform planned maintenance and repairs on ROV units and ancillary equipment.
  • Ensure familiarity with equipment and procedures before diving.
  • Conduct pre/post dive checks and assist with ROV deployment and recovery.
  • Monitor video, survey equipment, and vehicle tooling systems.
  • Provide informative commentary on ROV operations for client presentation.
  • Maintain familiarity with client data recording/reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Safety Awareness: Ability to locate and follow health, safety, and quality procedures; conduct safety meetings; complete Oceaneering forms (HSE processes, risk assessments); provide safety instructions; identify workplace hazards.
  • Teamwork: Establish good working relationships, recognize limitations, and report emergencies.
  • Emergency Procedures: Understand company/client emergency procedures; describe roles in emergencies; provide basic mentoring.
  • Piloting Skills/Navigational Ability: Fly ROV using proper tether management; describe ROV controls; provide range and bearing information; perform tasks with manipulators.
  • ROV System: Operate ROV independently; navigate CTAG; troubleshoot basic hydraulic/electrical issues.
  • Maintenance: Perform planned maintenance; prepare work area; use system isolations; perform fault checks; use relevant tools/test equipment.
  • Safe Operating Procedures: Understand and use proper communications during deck operations; checklists for launch and recovery; discuss environmental limitations.
  • Administration: Use computer-based paperwork; maintain written and video logs.
  • Technical Ability: Identify and describe hydraulic and electrical components of ROV systems.
  • Install and test tools supplied with ROV systems.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures; contribute to a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

  • Degree/HND/HNC or equivalent in Electronic/Electrical or Mechanical/Hydraulic Engineering, or recognized Trade Apprenticeship.
  • Valid Offshore Medical.
  • Valid Offshore Survival.
  • Completed requirements for ROV Jr Technician with 100 hours piloting and 2 evaluations.  
  • Equipment: Experience with Workclass ROV Systems (e.g., Magnum, Triton) and Intervention Tooling.
  • Software: PC literate with knowledge of Word and Excel.

Working Conditions: Offshore work involving exposure to outdoors, moving/vibrating equipment, high humidity, noise, and intense light. Potential exposure to airborne dust, fumes, gases, and open flames. Work surface is stable but elevated.
