Job Description
CSG Consultants is hiring a Senior Planner to manage a variety of programs and activities within Planning Divisions. This advanced-level role involves leading and supervising planning services across advanced planning, current planning, and public information, and providing support to higher management.
Responsibilities:
- Manage policy planning projects and programs within Planning departments.
- Gather, analyze, and present data for reports and public hearings.
- Plan and participate in advanced planning projects.
- Prepare statistics and information for distribution.
- Provide technical and management advice to subordinate staff.
- Review General Plans and assist in preparing new ordinances.
- Conduct research and technical analysis for complex planning projects.
- Coordinate CEQA requirements and work with environmental consultants.
- Represent the department at various meetings and committees.
- Assist with staffing, budget, and resource allocation as directed.
- Lead planning initiatives and act in the absence of the Principal or Senior Principal Planner.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in planning, architecture, engineering, or related field; Master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
- Experience: Five years of professional planning experience.
- Certifications: APA or AICP certification is desirable.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may qualify.
Knowledge Of:
- Planning and zoning administration principles, practices, and legal requirements.
- Environmental protection regulations (e.g., CEQA, NEPA).
- State and local land use laws (e.g., Williamson Act).
- Inter-agency land use planning requirements.
- Effective customer service principles.
- Planning implications on community characteristics.
- Governmental operations and community interrelationships.
- Research, report writing, and presentation techniques.
- Common computer applications and GIS.
Ability To:
- Review project plans and apply policy and code provisions.
- Interpret zoning ordinances and policy documents.
- Organize and conduct planning studies and supervise others.
- Prepare and present complex reports and policies.
- Conduct analyses and make recommendations based on findings.
- Administer planning policies and processes efficiently.
- Build and maintain relationships with public, agencies, and staff.
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Facilitate large meetings and workshops.
Working Conditions: Work with detailed documents. Sit for extended periods. Travel to client offices and job sites as needed. Potential exposure to fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
Pay and Benefits: Compensation: $104,000 to $133,120 annually (varies based on skills, experience, and location).
